‘World-class’ player confirms he spoke to Arne Slot about joining Liverpool

Everyone expected Arne Slot to make a few big signings after he became Liverpool’s new boss.

The Dutchman accepted the responsibility of filling the great Jurgen Klopp’s shoes at Anfield. Everyone viewed it as a daunting job, but Slot has made it look easy.

The new Reds boss has led his side to the top of the Premier League and the Champions League tables. That is incredible, especially considering that he only signed one player in the summer.

Slot could’ve signed another one too, but he couldn’t because of two reasons.

David Hancko confirms talks with Arne Slot about joining Liverpool

David Hancko was linked with a move to Liverpool before Slot was even announced as the club’s new manager.

The defender worked with the current Reds boss at Feyenoord, and he was hoping that Slot would bring him along to Anfield.

Hancko is a Liverpool fan and his dream was to become a Red. Sadly, that hope was crushed after just one phone call with Slot in the summer.

The Slovakian defender has revealed that he contacted the Liverpool boss to discuss a move to Merseyside, but his request was ‘immediately’ shot down.

The reason for that, according to Hancko himself, was Liverpool’s transfer philosophy – two things went against him.

He said on the : “I was in contact with the coach, but he immediately told me that it was not possible.

“Liverpool have a certain transfer philosophy. Age was one issue, the other was price. Both factors were negative for me.”

Liverpool need a new defender

Liverpool could do with a few new players in 2025.

Virgil van Dijk has entered the final year of his contract and there is a chance he could leave the club. Even if he doesn’t, the Dutchman is 33 already and isn’t getting any younger. Liverpool need to find his successor.

Hancko, hailed as a ‘world-class defender’ by Dutch journalist Diederik de Groot on , would’ve been an interesting choice, mainly because he has worked under Slot and knows his system.

However, the Liverpool boss has already turned him down. We expect the Reds to go after a much more accomplished centre-half in one of the next two windows.
