Why Declan Rice was ‘raging’ at Gabriel Martinelli in last minute of Arsenal vs Chelsea game
Ally McCoist spotted Arsenal star Declan Rice ‘raging’ at Gabriel Martinelli towards the end of the game against Chelsea last night.
The Gunners picked up an emphatic 5-0 win against their London rivals.
It was a one-sided affair for large parts of the game, and Arsenal could’ve, and probably should’ve, scored three or four more goals.
Rice had a couple of opportunities himself, while Martinelli, who came on as a substitute, could’ve scored a brace too.
One incident involving the above two players in the final minute of normal time saw Rice raging at Martinelli. McCoist explained why.

Why Declan Rice was ‘raging’ at Arsenal teammate Gabriel Martinelli
Arsenal were on another level compared to Chelsea last night.
After scoring very early on through Leandro Trossard, the Gunners wasted so many opportunities. They could’ve easily been 4-0 up at half-time.
However, the Blues went in at the break only a goal down, and everyone expected them to fare much better in the second half than they did in the first.
However, Mauricio Pochettino‘s side conceded four goals in the space of 18 minutes, and Arsenal deservedly picked up a 5-0 win.
As we said earlier, the margin of victory could’ve been considerably higher had Arsenal taken their chances.
Gabriel Martinelli had two shots at goal. If he was at his best, he probably would’ve converted both chances, but unfortunately for him, he missed them last night.
The first of those misses came in the last minute of normal time. Fabio Vieria headed the ball into Martinelli’s path and the 22-year-old Brazilian’s shot went wide.
Arsenal would’ve surely scored at that stage if Martinelli had just squared the ball to Declan Rice, who had made a brilliant run into the box.
Replays show that the Englishman wasn’t happy with Martinelli’s decision – McCoist felt Rice was raging.
He said on during their coverage of the game: “Look at Declan Rice. Declan Rice is raging because he wanted him to pass it.
“I think Martinelli is quite right to have an effort, but look at the run from Rice to give him an option.”
Declan Rice’s stats vs Chelsea are incredible
There were a number of candidates for the Man of the Match award last night, and Declan Rice couldn’t have been far off the top.
The Englishman was absolutely incredible for Arsenal. He started in a box-to-box role and caused Chelsea all sorts of problems throughout the game.
In his 90 minutes on the pitch, Rice had 57 touches of the ball and completed 33 of his 38 attempted passes. He picked up an assist as well at the very start of the game.
To add to that, the Englishman won seven duels, made two interceptions, two clearances and a very impressive five tackles. He was dribbled past just once in the entire game ().
It was a truly magnificent performance from Rice against his old club last night, and Arsenal fans will be hoping he can produce the same against Tottenham this weekend.
