Which Tottenham youngster has got Ange Postecoglou ‘super’ excited about his future

Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their pre-season tour of Asia with a victory in their game against Vissel Kobe in Tokyo, Japan.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side were coming up against the J League champions who are already 24 games into their current campaign.

In what proved to be a solid run out for Tottenham, there were some really impressive performances from the Lilywhites.

With some of the club’s international representatives still enjoying their holidays, there have been opportunities for numerous players to make an impression on the Spurs boss.

However, it seems there was one player who really caught the Australian manager’s eye during their game in Tokyo.

Ange Postecoglou really impressed with ‘fantastic’ forward vs Vissel Kobe

Spurs found themselves behind in the opening minutes, but a goal from Pedro Porro was able to bring them level.

The second half did not see a completely changed XI with Heung-min Son then putting Spurs in front.

The changes then began to roll in after the hour mark with some of the first team players racking up some solid minutes in the Japan heat.

And with the game looking set to end as a 2-2 draw and go to penalties, up stepped young Mikey Moore who secured the win.

After the game, Postecoglou spoke to the media and it is fair to say he has been left impressed with what he has seen from the 16-year-old winger.

“Mikey has been fantastic since we brought him in. He’s earned his spot on the roster at the moment — he did at the end of last year,” Postecoglou said.

“He got a run with the first team because we could see in training that he was handling himself really well and that’s followed through into pre-season training. He’s been good in all the games — he probably should have had three tonight, to be fair — but he did take his goal well by being in the right areas.

“All we can do is keep allowing him to develop. We have to remember that last year he had some injuries and he is only 16, but — yeah — super exciting. I think the future with a lot of our young guys looks pretty promising, but it’s our responsibility to make sure they realise their potential and continue to work hard at their game.”

How much game time could Mikey Moore play this season?

What lies ahead for Moore this season has to be one of the biggest questions currently hanging over Postecoglou’s head.

The 16-year-old wowed last season in the Spurs academy and has since gone on to provide a goal contribution in each of the three friendlies this summer.

It has often difficult to compute how a player so young is able to look so accomplished and that is something Postecoglou is going to have to handle.

The Europa League could provide the youngster with the perfect opportunity to rack up some first team minutes.

However, it has to be said he is currently putting on more of a display than some of the senior players in his position.
