When exactly Everton fans will know the truth about PSR-busting women’s team takeover, ‘I just don’t buy it’
Everton owners The Friedkin Group have sold the women’s team to a sister company and they are now a separate entity from the men’s team.
The Everton women’s team has been purchased by Roundhouse Capital Holdings, which is owned and controlled by Dan Friedkin.
Everton are the latest Premier League club to sell their women’s team, with Aston Villa and Chelsea making similar moves recently.
Adam Williams, TBR Football’s Head of Football Finance and Governance Content, has spoken about the deal and what it could mean for their PSR situation.

Everton ‘would basically be passing up a £40-60million PSR boost for no reason’ by not booking PSR profit
Williams has commented on speculation suggesting Everton have not booked a PSR profit by selling the women’s team, claiming it would be a “dereliction of duty” if this were the case.
He noted how the transaction, which is understood to have been completed at the end of June, coincided with the end of the club’s 2024/25 financial year.
However, in terms of finding out about the profit made on the deal, this won’t be known until early 2026, when they release their accounts.
“The TLDR here is that Everton’s owners have transferred the women’s team out from under control of Everton Football Club and instead incorporated it into Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, which is the vehicle through which the owners legally own the club,” said Williams.
“Chelsea have done this, and booked a PSR profit from the deal. They effectively sold the women’s team to themselves, plus a chunk to an external investor, and that allowed them to artificially boost their profit for the financial year and pass PSR as a result.
“There is some talk on social media that Everton have not made a PSR profit on this intra-group transaction – I just don’t buy that, not one bit.
“Basically, the suggestion is that they have repositioned the women’s team within the corporate structure in order to make investment from a third party more attractive.
“Perhaps that’s true, but even if so, why on earth would they not take the opportunity to book a PSR profit on the deal at the same time?
“For a club like Everton, who have breached PSR and – even with the income from the new stadium – are not completely out of the woods yet, it would be a dereliction of duty from the owners not to do so.
“It’s complex, but all you need to know is that they would basically be passing up a £40-60million PSR boost for no reason.
“We can argue whether or not it’s within the spirit of the rules, but that’s the Premier League’s concern, not Everton. They need to draft better, less porous rules if they want to avoid this kind of thing.
“The curious thing is the transaction took place just a few days before the end of the financial year. I thought they would probably be okay for the three-year PSR period up until the end of 2024-25, but the timing of the deal perhaps suggests otherwise.
“Whatever profit they make on the deal – and we won’t know the effect until early 2026, when they release their accounts – it will boost their PSR position for 2025-26 and 2026-27. The book value of the women’s team was £1.25million or thereabouts, so anything above that will be an on-paper profit.
“The Premier League will screen the transaction for fair market value, so they don’t have carte blanche to make a £1bn profit on the deal or anything silly. But as I say, I think they can expect £40-60million.”
What is happening with Goodison Park
Goodison Park was the men’s team’s home for 133 years, and fans were gearing up to say goodbye to the famous ground ahead of the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
However, the club delighted fans by announcing in May that Everton Women would play their home games at Goodison Park next term.
Everton are now reported to have transferred ownership of Goodison Park to the women’s team.
, citing sources, understands that Goodison Park will be held by Everton Women Football Club, with the Hill Dickinson Stadium belonging to Everton Football Club.
