What Wolves have told Gary O’Neil ahead of Southampton clash as coach who left Molineux in 2019 may take over

Wolves and Gary O’Neil are facing a hugely significant clash against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Old Gold are still without a win after ten Premier Leꦕague outings this season – leaving them 20th.

Despite that, Wolves can still move above Southampton with a win this weekend, seeing as Russell Martin’s side only secured their first victory of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign last week with a 1-0 win over Everton.

Now, sources have informed TBR Football what Fosun are telling Gary O’Neil ahead of Wolves vs Southampton on Saturday.

Fosun have told Gary O’Neil he must lead Wolves to victory over Southampton

TBR Football understand the 41-year-old must oversee a win against Southampton at Molineux on Saturday in🍸 order to keep h꧙is job.

It is believed Fosun did not anticipate such a poor run of results despite selling Max Kilman and Pedro Neto during the summer transfer window, with those in the boardroom at Molineux already doing background checks on potential replacement🐈s for O’Neil.

Sources have told TBR Football that David Moye🌼s and Rob Edwards are two potential replacements for the man born in Beckenham – with the latter still holding strong connect🔯ions at Wolves after spending four years at Molineux as a player.

Edwards even managed two Wolves games after taking the reins on an interim basis followℱing the sacking of Walter Zenga in 2016, recording a 1-1 draw against Blackburn, and a 3-2 defeat to Derby.

The Luto🌃n boss also work💞ed at Wolves as manager of the U23 side between 2018 and 2019, overseeing a promotion campaign.

In regards to Moyes, the Glaswegian would not need to be lured away from another club, as he remains unem🌠ployed after leaving 🌱West Ham at the end of last season.

TBR Football also understand that Fosun – who are tracking Christopher Wooh ahead of a January move – would ideally like to keep O’Ne⛦il and believe there has been a lot of bad luck this term, although failure to beat Southampton would most likely see the Londoner handed his P45.

The Sun believe Wolves also like Jimmy Thelin after Aberdeen’s stunning start to the season.

What Rob Edwards has previously said about Wolves

Speaking to the media ahead of a Premier League clash between Luton and Wolves in September 2023, it was clear Edwards still has a lot of love for thℱe Old Gold.

The 41-year-old said: “It’s a club that is special to me personally, four years as a player and a long time as a coach in many different roles. It’s a club I know well and still know lots of people there. A lot of my friends today are from my time there. It will be nice𝐆🎃 to see them.”

Now – if O’Neil fails to beat Southampton – a reun🍬ion could be on.
