What Shane Duffy said about Celtic target Adam Idah after training with him earlier this season
Celtic’s capture of Norwich City striker, Adam Idah, on loan in the transfer window been met with a lukewarm reception by the Hoops fans.
Boss, Brendan Rodgers has spoken insis🍬tently about the need to add quality to the squad and not project players and the Celtic support r🐟emains unconvinced that Idah is nothing short of the type of player the Hoops gaffer wants to avoid.
However, if you listen to former Celtic defender, Shane Duffy, it seems that Rodgers may have uncovered a ಞhidden gem in I𒁃dah.
Duffy trained and played alongside Idah for the Republic of Ireland back in September 2023 and after watching the 22-year-old striker give Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk a tough game i𒐪n the 🦂2-1 defeat to the Dutch, Duffy was convinced that Idah has what it takes to be a top player.
Duffy said [], “Adam just needs to believe in himself. He🐲’s got power, strength, pace, he just needs that belief.
“I canꦆ see it everyday, he’s working really hard and the✅ lads say there’s a big difference in him this season.
“You saw him against Netherlands, against Virgil van Dijk – that𝓰’s one of the best defenders in the world – it’s just about belief.”
Idah scored in Ireland’s 2-1 defeat to the Dutch when he converted a penalty🌄 to put the Irish 1-0 up.
However, when you look closely at what Duffy says, there are words in there that scream project player. ‘Belief’, ‘working hard’ and ‘belief’ again are not words that suggest Idah is the finished article. I🥂n fact, it’s quite the opposite.
Quality players do not need to have belief. They know that they are good and bel𒁏ieve in themselves. If Idah is coming to Celtic low on confidence then he is in for a tough time.
The Celtic fans demand that the team win every, single week. They also demand that their strikers score in every game🐻. That is a pressure Idah will not be used to and it’s pressure a striker low on confidence doesn’t need.
A🧸t least there is one positive to take from this. He knows how to score a penalty.
