TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Manchester City are making progress in their quest to land Florian Wirtz this summer.

Manchester City feel Wirtz will leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season, which has given them the confidence to explore a deal for one of the best midfielders in the world.

With Kevin De Bruyne set to leave the Etihad Stadium, a signing like that of the German international’s would be worth its weight in gold as it would take more than one player to replace the six-time Premier League winner.

Manchester City eyed a swap deal for Wirtz and James McAtee months ago which goes to show the different avenues they are willing to take just to secure his services.

Updates have now emerged about Bayer Leverkusen superstar Florian Wirtz and City’s pursuit to make him their marquee signing.

Sources have told Graeme Bailey — TBR Football’s chief correspondent that Manchester City have promised Wirtz that he will replace De Bruyne, who Inter Miami are targeting and take his place in the side.

Manchester City have assured Wirtz that he will be vital to their plans in the future as the heartbeat of their side — a guarantee that has impressed the 21-year-old.

The youngster and his father, Hans who represents him have only held talks with City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid so far.

TBR Football understands that Manchester City are of the belief that they have impressed Wirtz’s camp.

As for Bayern, their pitch to the Bundesliga winner is that he would play in tandem with Jamal Musiala — as he does for Germany to form the best attacking midfield duo at both club and international level.

Real Madrid, however cannot offer such positional guarantees but they are aware that if Xabi Alonso replaces Carlo Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Spaniard’s arrival could have a huge bearing on his decision.

German sources have informed TBR Football that while Bayer Leverkusen have offered Wirtz a contract extension with the option of inserting a release clause that will allow him to leave in 2026, he is leaning towards a summer exit.

All the talks involving the sought-after technician are centered around his role wherever he goes as Manchester City, Bayern and Real Madrid can all afford to fund the big-money deal and the man in question would be banking similar figures from each club.

The good news for his suitors is that Wirtz’s camp believe a summer exit is possible.

So much so that Manchester City and Bayern Munich have been informed that they could sign Wirtz in the coming months.

Pep Guardiola has every reason to be excited as the potential addition of the silky attacker in a roster that also boasts of excellent attacking midfielders like Phil Foden and Oscar Bobb is one that would could turn his side into the most feared attack in Europe.

Manchester City are looking to rebuild their squad in the summer and Wirtz would be the ideal addition to usher them into a new era.
