What Liverpool staff are saying about Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and why there’s a transfer concern
Liverpool and Everton historically don’t do much transfer business.
No player has crossed the Merseyside divide in more than 20 years since Abel Xavier swapped blue for red in 2002.
Since then, there has been no transfer business at all between the two clubs.
However, over the past few days, rumours have begun to circulate about interest from Liverpool in Jarrad Branthwaite.
Speaking on the , Paul Gorst has been discussing these links, and he says that he’s heard from people at Liverpool that Branthwaite is a player they really like, although he would be expensive.

Liverpool like Jarrad Branthwaite
Gorst shared what he’s heard from Liverpool about the defender.
“Branthwaite, for me, I think they do like him don’t they? Certainly people we have spoken to at Liverpool think he’s a good player, but there will be a Liverpool tax on top of what we have already spoken about. With all the unrest that has gone on across Stanley Park, this could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, and I can’t see it,” Gorst said.
What Liverpool staff previously said about Jarrad Branthwaite
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Liverpool staff rate Branthwaite.
Indeed, earlier this year, Liverpool staff were reportedly speaking highly of the Everton defender according to Theo Squires.
“I was down at the academy on Thursday, doing some bits and bobs with people working there, and they were saying that they could easily envisage England’s centre-back pairing being Branthwaite and Quansah in the coming years because they complement each other so well,” Squires said.
The young centre-back is clearly someone the Reds admire, but doing a deal with their rivals will not be easy.
Branthwaite to Liverpool would be a dream signing in a lot of ways, but it will be very difficult to make that dream a reality.
This transfer rumour may have legs to it, but it’s very unlikely that a deal actually goes ahead.
