What Liverpool actually think about Manchester United paying £52m for Leny Yoro

Liverpool are now set to be beaten to the signing of a young defender by Manchester United after an agreement was struck.

Considering Liverpool are yet to see any new faces come through the doors at Anfield this summer, they have had their fair share of battles with Manchester United already.

Arne Slot may have only been at the club for a few weeks, but the Dutchman will be keen to see some new additions brought into his squad.

However, it seems one player who will not be joining Liverpool this summer is Lille centre-back Leny Yoro.

What Liverpool have said about paying £52m for Leny Yoro

On Wednesday, United struck an agreement with the player to see him make the move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils had already seen a £52m bid accepted by Lille but needed to convince the player to choose them over the interested Real Madrid.

All has been agreed and the 18-year-old is now set to join United with a medical having been booked.

But those on Merseyside are not overly concerned they have missed out on a potential deal for Yoro.

According to the , the Reds could not justify paying £52m for an 18-year-old defender who was unproven in the Premier League.

Had Liverpool spent that on Yoro, it would have made the Frenchman their second-most expensive defender in club history.

But not only were United willing to offer the asking price Lille were demanding, but they can also provide him with guaranteed minutes.

Liverpool could spend their money better elsewhere

Yoro has enjoyed one good season in Ligue 1 with Lille and his price tag is being driven off the potential he has shown so far.

Yoro clearly is a player who many clubs are viewing as a possible future star with Madrid showing an interest.

But even Carlo Ancelotti’s side were unwilling to pay up for a player with such little experience in the men’s game.

Slot is going into the summer with some solid options at the back and a real leader in Virgil van Dijk.

Fellow Dutchman, Van Dijk, does however only have one year remaining on his deal at Anfield which may have a few at the club wondering about where his future lies now he is 33-years-old.

The issue will come if Yoro fulfills his potential and looks like a player who could potentially have become Van Dijk’s successor.
