What Kevin De Bruyne has already said about Liverpool as report suggests shock move could actually happen

Rumours involving Kevin De Bruyne and Liverpool are refusing to disappear.

The Belgium international will be available on a free transfer this summer when his contract expires in June, already announcing his departure from Manchester City in a heartfelt statement.

It will bring an end to almost a decade at the Etihad Stadium for the Belgian – who arrived in a £55m move from VfL Wolfsburg back in August 2015.

Inter Miami are keen to sign De Bruyne – along with clubs in the Saudi Pro League – with many not expecting him to remain in England.

However, talk of a move to Liverpool is not going away.

in Belgium state that it simply cannot be ruled out, mentioning the fact his Grandfather supports the Reds as one reason, while also referring to the Manchester City No.17 himself saying that a Premier League stay in “possible” beyond this summer.

The topic of his family also arose, as a trip from Manchester to Merseyside would not require major upheaval compared to a move to the United States or Saudi Arabia.

Most interestingly – however – Kevin De Bruyne himself has already pledged an allegiance to Liverpool.

Kevin De Bruyne said he “would like to play” for Liverpool

Speaking in an old video while still playing for KRC Genk in his childhood, the Premier League star actually admitted he supports Liverpool – and said he would love to play at Anfield one day.

De Bruyne revealed at the age of 11: “My favourite club is Liverpool and my favourite player is Michael Owen, and I would like to play there one day.”

Joe Cole also shared the fact that the 33-year-old conceded his children are “scared” about a move when speaking to him after Manchester City 5-2 Crystal Palace on Saturday, telling The Dressing Room podcast: “I think there’s a twist in the tale here with Kevin De Bruyne, we interviewed him after the game and it was very interesting, he was saying that his kids are a bit scared.

“I got the impression from him that he doesn’t want to leave and if the contract offer was right… I’m just speculating, I’m throwing it out there.”

Mohamed Salah would be pleased if Liverpool sign Kevin De Bruyne

Mohamed Salah is clearly content at Liverpool – having recently signed a new contract until June 2027 – but the Egyptian could become even happier at Anfield if the Belgian arrives.

Salah has previously said he would love to play with De Bruyne, naming the Manchester City legend as his dream teammate behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Liverpool No.11 said: “Messi or Ronaldo but if I pick one in the Premier League, I choose Kevin, because he has vision and I’m sure he can find me anywhere with the ball, so I could say Messi and Ronaldo and Kevin.”
