How Jonathan David described Liverpool after the Reds’ Champions League win over Lille

Liverpool are flying high at present as they sit top of the Premier League table and have won all seven of their Champions League games so far.

Liverpool’s latest victory in the Champions League came against Jonathan David’s Lille on Tuesday night.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the Reds in the 34th minute with a first-time finish from Curtis Jones’ through-ball.

David equalised for Lille just after the hour, but Harvey Elliott put the Reds ahead via a deflection in the 67th minute.

Darwin Nunez also saw a goal ruled out for offside, while Lille finished the game with ten men due to Aissa Mandi receiving two bookings.

David spoke to reporters after the Champions League game and he paid Liverpool arguably the biggest compliment possible.

Jonathan David says Liverpool might now be ‘the very best team in the world’

David, speaking to Amazon Prime after the game, said Liverpool might just be the very best team in the world at present.

“Very good team,” said the Canada international. “I think they might be the best team in the world at the moment.

“Tonight is one more goal [for me]. I’m happy I managed to score but we didn’t manage to get the three points.”

David also said: “We came against the first of the Champions League group so we knew it was going to be a complicated game – even more so when we went to 10 men.”

Could David come to the Premier League?

David is set to be one of the most highly sought after players on the market this year, because of his contract expiring this summer.

David is on the radar of West Ham and Manchester United, while Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United have also been linked with David.
