Wayne Rooney says £42m midfielder Man United want to sign has been even better than Bruno Fernandes this season
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has been among the best players in the Premier League this season, says Wayne Rooney.
The Red Devils have had a shocking campaign. They are currently 14th in the table, having won just 10 of their first 33 games in all competitions.
Manchester United would’ve been in an even worse position if their captain, Bruno Fernandes, hadn’t delivered this term.
But, Rooney believes there has been another player in the Premier League – a Manchester United target – who has been even better than Fernandes.
Wayne Rooney names the top five players in the Premier League this season
The 2024/25 Premier League campaign has by no means been a great season.
The title was all but decided several weeks ago, as were the relegation places. That has made the last few months far less exciting for the neutral.
Despite that, there have been many standout performers in the league this season, and Rooney has named his top five.
Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, unsurprisingly, was on top of his list, while Newcastle United star Alexander Isak and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer took the next two spots.
Fernandes was fifth on the list, but beating him to fourth place was Manchester United target Morgan Gibbs-White, who has been incredible for Nottingham Forest this season.
“In fourth place, I’d probably go with Gibbs-White. I think he has had a fantastic season for Nottingham Forest. Creating, scoring good goals and being the main player, in my opinion,” Rooney told Amazon Prime Video Sport.

Morgan Gibbs-White will cost Manchester United a fortune
Gibbs-White really has had a brilliant season at Nottingham Forest.
The Englishman has scored five goals and provided nine assists for the Reds and has played a big part in helping them be in contention to play in Europe next season.
claimed in March that Manchester United want to sign Gibbs-White this summer, but we can confirm that a move will not be easy.
TBR Football exclusively revealed earlier in April that Nottingham Forest are set to demand up to £100 million for Gibbs White after his fantastic season at the City Ground.
Forest signed Gibbs White in a £42 million deal in the summer of 2022 – an initial £25 million plus £17 million in add-ons (). He will enter the final two years of that deal this summer.
