Unai Emery might have just helped Arsenal sign £60m striker this summer

There are still a few Arsenal fans who will tell you that Unai Emery was sacked too early at the Emirates Stadium, a manager who has gone to shine at Aston Villa.

Emery’s Villa side have 57 points from 33 games this season and will be hoping to return to the Champions League once again next season alongside Arsenal.

Of course, Emery almost set up a famous all-English semi-final against the Gunners in the competition this term, only to be narrowly beaten by French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal will now face PSG over two legs themselves, a side who have already ended Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Champions League too.

That being said, Emery might have just inadvertently helped Arsenal in pursuit of one of their major targets to improve Mikel Arteta’s squad next term.

Unai Emery might help Arsenal sign Alexander Isak

Whilst new sporting director Andrea Berta has held talks with several strikers since arriving in north London, Arsenal still want Alexander Isak from Newcastle United first and foremost.

Isak is Arsenal’s number one candidate but the Gunners are also accepting the reality that the Sweden international might be impossible to sign this summer.

Newcastle are determined to keep Isak and should be able to do so providing that they qualify for the Champions League next season.

However, Emery’s Villa side might have just done Arsenal a huge favour with their 4-1 win against Newcastle in the Premier League, one that has really shook up the race for the Champions League spots.

Prior to losing at Villa Park, Newcastle looked to have all the momentum in the world — they had just won six games in a row.

However, Villa dealt a sizable blow to Newcastle in their four-goal win, one that has put Newcastle in touching distance for the likes of Manchester City and Nottingham Forest too.

Alexander Isak’s Newcastle future

Admittedly it is a bizarre situation in which Arsenal fans might be praying that Newcastle miss out on Champions League football next season.

However, it could be a huge factor in Isak’s future — many consider that the 25-year-old might be itching to leave if he’s not playing in Europe’s top competition.

Either way, Arsenal have held talks with Benjamin Sesko at RB Leipzig as a potential back-up, it would be unwise to put all their eggs in the Isak basket.

After all, Newcastle are still in the driving seat to secure Champions League football next term even after losing convincingly at Villa.

The Magpies will still be confident of tying Isak down to a new contract too, but those negotiations might become a lot more difficult should the club miss out on a top five spot.
