Two transfers have just happened in England which Celtic need to take note of

Celtic need to add quality to their squad before the window closes in January. The headlines have been running on that line for months.

But to add quality, Brendan Rodgers will need to spend a fair chunk of Celtic’s £70m cash that is floating around in the bank right? Wrong.

There are two transfers currently happening in England that prove that to get quality, you don’t need to break the bank.

Luton Town sign Daiki Hashioka for under £2m

Daiki Hashioka is a Japan international who is a right-back but can also float over to the left-hand side. The 24-year-old could have offered good competition for Alistair Johnston or played left back temporarily to fill in for the injured Greg Taylor.

have the Japanese on an average rating of 7.3. He can score goals, has good defensive stats and is a full international and cost just €2m. []

He also has an 83% passing accuracy and averages three touches inside the opposition’s penalty box. With 58.6% of his duels won on average each game, Hashioka is a solid attacking defender who is affordable and could have done a job for Celtic.

He does need to work on increasing his average tackling as it stands at just over one completed per game but just under £2m and heading to the Premier League, Hashioka’s capture shows you don’t need to spend big to get good players.

Leicester City loan Stefano Sensi for under £500k

The Inter Milan midfielder is also a full Italian international with nine caps to his name. Struggling for gametime at the Serie A giants, the versatile midfielder moves on loan with an option to buy for under £2m should Leicester get to promotion to the English top tier. []

Sensi can play DM, AM and just in front of the main striker. He has won Serie A with Inter Milan, the Coppa Italia and two Italian Super Cups.

At 28 years of age, he could have offered experience and competition for Reo Hatate as well as cover for Matt O’Riley if was ever sold instead of investing money on Hyeoky Kwon and Odin Thiago Holm who are barely used.

Sensi enjoyed two loan spells at Sampdoria and Monza prior to joining Leicester and made 30 appearances in the Serie A for Monza last season averaging a rating of 7.0 for the Italian side. []

With an 87% passing accuracy, averaging almost 1.5 tackles per game and a 57.9% success rate at winning his duels, Sensi would have offered steel in the heart of the Hoops midfield.

Whether or not either of these players would have been a success at Celtic, no one knows. That’s the gamble but when you see that both players are capped at international level for Japan and Italy that shows that they have pedigree and talent and very little cost.

Celtic should take note.
