Troy Deeney shares what he thought of Virgil van Dijk’s performance for Liverpool vs Man United

Liverpool put on an emphatic display at Old Trafford to thump arch-rivals Manchester United 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

In what was Arne Slot‘s biggest test since taking charge at Liverpool, the Dutchman passed with flying colours.

The visitors weathered an early storm from Manchester United🌼 before taking complete control of the fixture when Luis Diaz opened the scoring.

Diaz, who has been in impressive form🦄 this season, then doubled Liverpool’s lead just minutes before the break.

𒈔United continued to have no answer to Slot’s side after the break and Mohamed Salah continued his incredible scoring record at Old Trafford to extend the lead to three.

💜It was a clinical showing from Liverpool, but equally impressive was their defence, who have still not conceded a single goal in the Premier League.

Troy Deeney singles out Virgil van Dijk for praise

Slot chose to start Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk as his centre-back pairing and the duo managed to keep United’s £34m summer signing Joshua Zirkzee quiet.

There have been question marks over Van Dijk’s future this summer♚ with the defender now in the final year of his contract, but there can be no doubts that his head and heart were both with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

🎐Following Liverpool’s comfortable win, Troy Deeney selected his and Van Dijk was one of five Reds players included in the lineup.
