Tottenham want to sign ‘frightening’ defender who their staff once rated over Micky van de Ven
Tottenham Hotspur have once again been linked with a move to sign Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen.
It is no secret that Spurs are looking to bring in a new central defender. Radu Dragusin was signed last month, but there’s still a need for another centre-half. Tapsoba has been on Tottenham’s radar for a while now and he is now a target again.

Tottenham want to sign Edmond Tapsoba
Edmond Tapsoba was Tottenham’s top target in last summer’s transfer window.
Spurs were desperate for reinforcements at the back following Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival, and the Bayer Leverkusen defender was heavily linked.
A deal even looked imminent at one point, with people at Spurs rating Tapsoba higher than Micky van de Ven. They thought the Leverkusen man was a ‘more ready-made addition for Postecoglou’s defence’ because of his ‘ability on the ball, strength and acceleration’ ().
Spurs ended up signing Van de Ven in the end, but if (21st February 2024, page 23) are to be believed, Tapsoba is still on their radar.
The report claims that Tottenham and Chelsea are both interested in signing the 25-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender this summer.
Tapsoba is now said to be valued at just €40 million (£34m), which would be an absolute bargain for a player of his quality.

Tapsoba is a brilliant player
Edmond Tapsoba is one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga.
The 25-year-old has been described by the as a ‘powerful and super quick defender’ who possesses ‘frightening heading abilities’.
Tapsoba is also very strong. He stands at 6ft 4in tall, and it’s extremely difficult to get past him – just ask all the players who have come up against him this season.
Tottenham are right to target someone like Tapsoba, but whether he would be willing to move to Spurs where there will be no guarantee of regular game time remains to be seen.
