Tottenham not getting good messages around ‘very strong’ centre-back target

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a host of centre-backs over the past few weeks amid their recent defensive crisis.

Spurs are currently without Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, who are both injured. The latter was also suspended earlier this season.

The absence of both first-choice centre-halves has impacted on Tottenham’s form following their superb start to the Premier League season.

With that in mind, Spurs are now on the lookout for reinforcements. Jean-Clair Todibo is one player whose name has been doing the rounds in recent weeks.

However, Tottenham don’t seem to have had much joy on that front. Nice are seemingly adamant they’re not selling this month.

‘Very stubborn’

A few days ago, Ben Jacobs reported that “Todibo was a clear target” for Spurs but “they started talks and they were immediately pessimistic”.

Now, Dean Jones has reported that Tottenham “haven’t had good messages” about Todibo, despite him being “interested” in a move to England.

Other Premier League clubs, such as Chelsea and Manchester United, are also struggling to make any progress, added the transfer insider.

“I find it surprising that Chelsea would be getting involved in this conversation at a time when it seems very unlikely that Todibo will be leaving in January,” he wrote on .

“The message coming out of France is that they’re going to be very stubborn around the transfer, even if the player is interested in ending up in England.

“Tottenham haven’t had good messages around it. Man United are obviously still involved in the conversation. Maybe Chelsea are trying to hijack it, but I’d be very surprised if it was a deal that they actually could get done this month.

“I think clubs across the country will be asking serious questions if Chelsea were to go and throw big money at another defender, then people will be asking how they’re getting away with this and how they’re doing it.”

Tottenham may have to revisit Jean-Clair Todibo interest in summer – TBR View

Todibo, who reportedly has a £40million price tag, would be a great shout for Tottenham, or indeed any other Premier League side.

Jacek Kulig of deemed him “the complete package” and “one of the most underrated CBs in Europe at the moment”.

Meanwhile, teammate Dante said last year, as per : “Of course, we would like Todibo to stay. But it can be complicated.

“We have to wait to see who will want to buy him and if everyone finds himself there. He is a leader, a very strong player mentally, he has improved a lot and he is ready to reach the very top level.”

However, this is one deal that will probably have to be looked at in the summer. For now, Nice aren’t willing to engage in talks.

Tottenham look like they’ve moved on anyway, with talks for Radu Dragusin said to be underway.
