‘Thrilled’… £1.5m Celtic man is delighted after sealing overnight deadline day loan move
As well as waiting to hear about transfer incomings, the Celtic fans will also be keeping a close eye on players who could potentially leave the club today.
Brendan Rodgers has already seen off suitors for Matt O’Riley but the Celtic boss will be keen to trim his squad.
With David Turnbull looking likely to move on and Hyeokkyu Kwon already gone, moves are being made to reduce the wage bill and get fringe players some much-needed gametime.
And in an overnight development, Marco Tilio has sealed a loan move out of Glasgow and has returned to his former club Melbourne FC.
Tilio was barely featured for Celtic this season. In fact, the ‘exciting‘ 22-year-old has played just 27 minutes under Rodgers and now that he’s sealed a Pakhead escape until the end of the season, the youngster said he was delighted to return home.
Speaking to s official media channel, Tilio said, “I’m thrilled to be back at City. The memories and experiences from my time here are unforgettable, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success once again.
“The support from the fans has always been incredible, and I’m eager to create more memorable moments together this season.”
What went wrong for Marco Tilio at Celtic?
The young winger clearly has talent. Celtic wouldn’t have paid £1.5m for him if he didn’t. In fact, the fee that Celtic paid is a record transfer payment paid to for a direct transfer from an Australian club.
An injury early into his Parkhead career wasn’t the best of starts for the youngster. Rodgers admitted to an ‘‘ that the youngster had when he signed and it really hampered his development at the club.
Despite the potential of the player and recovering from his injury, Tilio failed to settle in Glasgow. When questioned back in October about why the young Aussie hadn’t featured in the Hoops first-team Rodgers admitted Tilio found the transition to Celtic hard.
Rodgers said at the time, “It’s just time. He will admit it himself, it’s been a really, really hard transition for him.
“It’s always difficult, you are a new player coming into a club and you end up being injured virtually all of pre-season and into September.

“He has started to find his feet in the last three or four weeks. It’s going to take him more time but I am not in any big rush for Marco. He will bring himself to the team as quickly as he can produce in training and over his time here.
“He is adapting but it’s taking a wee bit longer for him just purely because the intensity of the game is totally different to where he has come from.”
However, after featuring for just one minute in the 1-1 draw against Motherwell in November and for 26 minutes in the 4-1 over Hibs in December, Tilio now hopes to kick start his career Down Under.
