Chris Sutton takes aim at Celtic after hearing Friday evening news out of Parkhead

Chris Sutton is never one to hold back in an opinion on Celtic and he’s had his say on the latest goings on at Parkhead from Friday evening.

Former Celtic forward Sutton remains an avid supporter and follower of the Bhoys and he often takes a keen interest in all things green and white in Scotland.

Of course, those opinions often come with a mix of good and bad from Sutton.

And after hearing the latest transfer news emerging from Celtic Park on Friday evening, it’s safe to say Sutton is not too impressed with his former club.

As we know, reports on Friday night confirmed that Celtic have agreed to sell midfielder Matt O’Riley to Brighton for around £25m.

And taking to X to provide his thoughts, Sutton admitted that while he sees the logic, he’s still unhappy at Celtic being weaker than last season on the whole.

Celtic have done well in the main over the summer to keep most of their squad together and have even brought Adam Idah back on a permanent.

However, O’Riley leaving could open the floodgates, with as a potential replacement for Julian Alvarez.

O’Riley transfer was always on

At the end of the day, once the Premier League vultures come circling, Celtic can do little to stop them other than demand a big fee.

In fairness to Celtic here, they’ve got a club-record fee for Matt O’Riley and it should allow them to dip into the market and find a replacement of sorts.

Quite who that will be, remains to be seen.

With just a week to go in the window, Brendan Rodgers and Celtic must now work hard on recruitment and hope that something lands.
