‘There’s no bitterness’: Ex-Leeds striker opens up on injury that cost him England opportunity
Former Leeds United striker Michael Bridges has opened up about the i🎉njury that effectively ended his career with the Yorkshire club at just 22-years-🧜old.
, the now 42-year-old coach revealed that he has moved on mentally from an ankle injury that shortened a promising career which saw Bridges play regul♛arly for Leeds and guide the club to third in the 1999/2000 Premier League season, with the striker s🅺coring 19 goals that campaign as well as saw the Whites reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.

However, Bridges Leeds career was cut short after the former England U21 international was badly injured in a Champions League game against Besiktas which saw the attacker dislocate his ankle and in time led to 𝔉knee problems and further problems in his footballing career.
Although the injury was the catalyst for the end of Bridges time at🔯 Leeds, as he was released in 2004, the striker doesn’t look back on the setback with malice, with the ex-attacker saying: “When I snapped my leg out in Turkey, I was told I’d never play again. So, in one sense, everything that came afterwards was a bonus.

The former Newcastle United and Sunderland striker later added: “I spent another 15 years in the game. OK, it wasn’t at the highest level, but there’s no bitterness in me. I’ve lost count of the number of times people have ဣcome up to me and said I lost a wonderful opportunity to become an England international, but I’m a believer in fate.”
After bouncing around different clubs in the English Football Leaguඣe, Bridges played out his remaining footballing years in Australia with the Newcastle Jets, where he became the first international captain of the club in 2010 🍎before retiring from the game a year later at just 32-years-old.
