The two former West Ham players Niclas Fullkrug spoke to before he decided to join
Amid all of West Ham United’s impressive business this summer, Niclas Fullkrug’s arrival will have perhaps been most applauded by the club’s supporters.
Fullkrug isn’t necessarily a better player than Max Kilman, another top signing by the club, but West Ham’s search for a striker to replace Michail Antonio has stretched for years now.
Whilst a 31-year-old may not have been the solution that some may have imagined in east London, Fullkrug arrives ready to score goals.
And ultimately, if Fullkrug is able to deliver on a regular basis then the fee to sign the German will quickly be forgotten.
Perhaps some wearing claret and blue were already frustrated on the weekend when Fullkrug remained on West Ham’s bench until the 73rd minute, but that’s unlikely to be the case much longer.
Fullkrug is still coming off the back of the Euros with his country, and it seems advisable that Julen Lopetegui is careful with his integration, given he has suffered with serious injuries in the past.
Niclas Fullkrug took advice from West Ham duo Sebastien Haller and Thilo Kehrer
As mentioned, Fullkrug arrives at West Ham as the club’s latest attempt to provide Antonio with proper competition.
The likes of Sebastien Haller, Gianluca Scamacca and Danny Ings have all failed previously.

But interestingly, via a report from , Haller was actually a player who Fullkrug decided to speak to before committing to West Ham this summer.
At this stage of his career, leaving Dortmund for the Premier League is a significant move by Fullkrug, one that takes a lot of courage.
And via the report, as well as speaking to former Dortmund teammate Haller for advice, Fullkrug also spoke to Thilo Kehrer, who has just left West Ham for Monaco in France.
Evidently, even if Kehrer didn’t have the most successful time at West Ham himself, he didn’t say anything to stop his fellow German from moving to England.
And whilst Fullkrug made a big call coming to London, Paul Merson has now questioned Julen Lopetegui over a decision he made against Aston Villa last weekend.
A disappointing first result for the Spaniard, who will be hoping to immediately bounce back against Crystal Palace.
