The club who are favourites to sign James Ward-Prowse from West Ham as Nottingham Forest and Southampton battle

Exclusive from Graeme Bailey

West Ham United have spent heavily this summer as the owners look to back Julen Lopetegui with a squad that can challenge for Europe.

Julen Lopetegui managed to get his West Ham managerial career up and running last time out as the Hammers got the better of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Hammers are finding it difficult to sort a move for Jhon Duran on the final day and it’s now been claimed that Chelsea could come in for a late deal for the Aston Villa striker.

In terms of outgoings, Danny Ings is a player who wants to stay in London despite Southampton plotting a late move to sign him.

Given how short the Hammers are for strikers, it may be sensible to keep Ings if a deal can’t be struck for an incoming.

Another outgoing could be James Ward-Prowse who is also attracting interest from Southampton.

And, TBR Football understands that Nottingham Forest have emerged as the favourites to sign Ward-Prowse ahead of Southampton.

The latest James Ward-Prowse situation at West Ham United

James Ward-Prowse’s time at West Ham appears to be coming to a close as a number of clubs circle in a battle for his signature.

Indeed, TBR Football understands that Nottingham Forest have emerged favourites to land James Ward-Prowse on deadline day.

Forest are pushing hard for the England midfielder, who is also wanted by his former club Southampton – but Forest are better placed to strike a deal with West Ham at this point.

Southampton are in for another West Ham player, who is somewhat cheaper, in the shape of Maxwell Cornet.

West Ham consider surprise move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is someone who has been linked with a late move to West Ham.

The former Liverpool star can operate in many different positions, including playing in the middle of midfield on occasions, so there could be a direct link.

The 31-year-old scored four goals in 31 appearances for Besiktas last season and could now be available on the cheap.

The financial situation at Besiktas isn’t great and the Englishman is set on returning home, which makes a move possible before the deadline.
