The £55m striker Arsenal genuinely thought they were signing last summer

Arsenal have been criticised this season for lacking a proper goalscoring number nine.

Kai Havertz has been praised for𒊎 his performances this season at the Emirates, but Arsenal still lack that killer centre-forward who can grab 20𒉰 goals a season.

Many believe Arsenal need a striker, and they did try to 𓆉geಞt some deals done in the summer.

Indeed, Alexander Isak was an Arsenal target in the summer, while Mikel Arteta looked at Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko was a concrete target for Arsenal, and according to John Cross, speaking to The Mirror, Arsenal genuinely thoughtꦐ they were going to sign the RB Leipzig striker at some point.

Arsenal thought they were signing Benjamin Sesko

Cross spoke abo🍰ut🦂 Arsenal’s search for a striker over the summer.

The journalist says that Arsenal seriously pushed to sign Sesko, and he claims that Arsenal actually thought they were signing the 🌠Slovenian at one poin🌌t.

“They obviously tried for Benjamin Sesko last summer. They really thought they were going to get that over the line, and maybe that is one to revisit there. The quality on the left side was something they couldn’t solve. 🦩They had a few players in their sights like Raphinha for example and Nico Williams. They were interesting ones.”

Sesko was seemingly very cloജse to becoming an Arsenal player iꦦn the summer.

It’s very easy for Arsenal supporters to wonder what could have been, but looking 🐠at the stats this season, there’s a☂n argument to make that Sesko may not have been too much of an upgrade on what the Gunners already have.

Indeed, Kai Havertz has performed well for Arsena💟l this season, and he’s actually performing just as well as Ses▨ko this season.

Sesko would’ve cost Arsenal , and that perhaps wouldn’t have been money well spen൩t on a player who isn’t outperforming Arsenal’s current first-choice striker.

Arsenal do need a more clinical striking option, that’s for sure, and at the age of just 21, Sesko may grow to be🀅come that player in time, but, for now, he isn’t necessarily the type of striker who will get y꧋ou over the line in a Premier League title race.

Arsenal may want ♑to revisit their search for a number nin🅰e in the January transfer window.
