Sunderland make transfer decision on Premier League striker as Alexandre Mendy pursuit continues

Sunderland continue to chase a new striker under Regis Le Bris but appear to be backing away from signing one Premier League forward.

The Black Cats have turned to Frenchman Roger Le Bris after a rather turbulent season last term.

Le Bris has made an encouraging start with wins over Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday providing some excitement.

Sunderland have kept two clean sheets and have seen young forward Eliezer Mayenda make a strong start to the season.

Le Bris still wants another striker though and Sunderland appear ready to move on from one Premier League attacker.

Sunderland make Daniel Jebbison decision

Daniel Jebbison walked away from Sheffield United this summer, completing a move to Bournemouth for £1.5million in compensation.

Jebbison is seen as one for the future at the Vitality Stadium and the Cherries are prepared to loan him out.

Bournemouth delayed a loan exit after Dominic Solanke’s move to Tottenham Hotspur but are ready to sanction a departure now Brazilian striker Evanilson is on board.

Sunderland were keen on Jebbison earlier in August, chasing a loan move to bolster the options for Le Bris.

However, now claim that Sunderland have backed away from a move to sign Jebbison.

It’s claimed that Sunderland are ‘looking elsewhere’ for a new striker with Jebbison now expected to head elsewhere in the Championship.

Stoke City and Watford are understood to be leading the race for Jebbison having launched loan offers.

Portsmouth are also keen but currently look set to miss out to a Championship rival.

Jebbison is still expected to be in the Bournemouth squad against Newcastle United this weekend before then leaving on loan.

Sunderland’s pursuit of Alexandre Mendy

Sunderland appear to be backing away from Jebbison in order to continue their pursuit of Caen forward Alexandre Mendy.

Mendy has spent his entire career in French football and will be familiar to Le Bris.

The 30-year-old – formerly of Nice and Bordeaux – is now with Caen and has racked up 65 goals in 142 games.

Sunderland are looking to swoop for Mendy and claim that he is ‘determined’ to secure a move to the Stadium of Light.

A deal for the Guinea-Bissau international appears to be the top priority for Sunderland – so much so that they are willing to back away from the Jebbison race.

These are two very different strikers; Jebbison is young and needs games where as Mendy has plenty of experience and would be viewed as an instant impact player.

With youngster Mayenda showing promise, perhaps Mendy suits what Sunderland need right now as Le Bris shapes his squad amid fears over Jack Clarke’s future.
