Steve Round shares Mikel Arteta’s stance towards signing a new striker for Arsenal this month

Arsenal have been linked with a new striker for a number of months now and, with the January transfer window in full swing, they have the opportunity to address this issue.

The Gunners are also suffering from a number of injuries up front, with Bukayo Saka on the sidelines and Gabriel Jesus possibly set for a lengthy stint out.

With that in mind, Arsenal’s need to sign attacking reinforcements is stronger than ever.

Now, former Arsenal assistant manager Steve Round has shared what Mikel Arteta’s stance will be towards signing a new forward this month.

Steve Round says Arsenal know they need a new striker

Round, speaking on , said he believes Arteta is fully aware of the Arsenal fanbase’s calls for a new striker and that the Gunners boss knows that’s what he needs.

But while Round believes the Arsenal scouting network will be “scouring the world” for a new forward, he acknowledges that such a signing is tricky to make in January.

“I think he is aware of it because you have to be in tune to supporters and how they feel and what they think of their club moving forward,” said Round.

“But he will be totally focused on the job in hand and I don’t think you can let the noise get in and influence your decisions.

“He will know that he will need a striker, especially with the unfortunate news that Gabriel Jesus will be out for a significant period.

“They will be scouring the world and I am sure they have been looking at lots of different players – it’s just whether those players are affordable and gettable in this transfer window.”

Which forwards Arsenal could sign this month

Arsenal have been linked with Lille star Jonathan David, with journalist Steve Kay saying he is “someone Arsenal could get” after failing to get their hands on Dusan Vlahovic.

Marseille striker Elye Wahi is also said to be on Arsenal’s list of targets, while TBR Football understand the Gunners have been offered the chance to sign Randal Kolo Muani from PSG.

In addition, Arsenal remain interested in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who could potentially be tempted by the right offer this month.

With just over two weeks remaining in the January transfer window, there’s still a fair bit of time for Arsenal to get the signing of a much-needed attacking reinforcement over the line.
