Steve Bruce admits 27-year-old Newcastle United player has left left him in shock recently
Joelinton has endured a tough season at Newcastle United with injury, but since the arrival of Eddie Howe – the Brazilian has turned his Toon spell around and Steve Bruce admits it has shocked him.
The 27-year-old joined Newcastle for a whopping £40m, the club’s record transfer at the time. But he really struggled. Handed the no.9 shirt, Joelinton was under ಞpressure to honour Alan Sh🦩earer’s number.
He failed – and unsurprisingly. He played as a left winger at Hoffenheim but Newcastle’s transfer chiefs at the time felt he could be the answer up top. It didn’t work. However, Howe‘s arrival has changed that.
Indeed, Howe converted Joelinton in a central midfielder and that has worked. A player that has been described as “absolutely magic” by Ally McCoist – and Robbie Fowler has suggested him for Liverpool.
Speaking on (19/03, 9.50AM), former Newcastle manager Bruce discussed Joelinton. He said that a deal 𒊎was done before he arrived – and says that he never saw him becoming a midfielder.

“I have to be honest. Befor🃏e I signed for Newcastle, Joelinton was already done – Steve Nickson and Lee Charnley had done it. I’d love to put my name on Joe. He was signed as a 9,” Bruce said this morning.
“But he 💙always played on the left at Hoffenheim. But I never saw him as a central midfielder. The move of position, he’s done really well. It was already done before I got to the club,” Bruce added, on TalkSPORT.
