Spurs signing Ben Godfrey can allay fears over Jan Verthongen

Spurs are being linked with a move for Norwich City defender, Ben Godfrey, Jose Mourinho is keen on a £50m move.

It would be quite the sum for Spurs to shell out on the 22-year-old. Godfrey♑ is enjoying his first season in the Premier League. Despite Norwich propping up the table, the defender has once again impressed.

But for Spurs, the signing of 🎀Godfrey could solve a long-term problem f🅺or the club.

A solid addition who can only improve

Few players have enjoyed a rise qui🧸te like Godfrey has. In the 2017/18 season, Godfrey was playing his football with Shrewsbury Town.

Following that success, he returned to Norwich a🌸nd was immediately placed at the heart of the defence by Daniel Farke.

It proved a shrewd mo🃏ve from Farke, as Godrey helped the Canaries win the Championship and land themselves a place back in the Premier League last year.

That sort of interest, as well as the speed at which he has developed, proves that Godfrey is a player who clubs like Spurs sh🐬ould𒈔 have their eye on.

Verthongen replacement

While Jan Verthonghen is a fine footballer in his own right and has been excellen🥂t for Spurs, there’ll come a time when he has to be replaced.

If the current rumblings turn out to be true, he’ll need replacing sooner rather than later. Godfrey, then, would be ide🐟al to step into the Spurs squad.

At just 22, he has ample time on his side to♑ further hone his craft. Crucially, Toby Alderweireld has stayed with Jose Mourinho’s men. This in itself would benefit Godfrey, who could once again learn quickly from one of the best.

With Norwich looking like being relegated this term, it seems only right, then, for Spurs to make the🗹ir move for one of the countries most promising defenders.
