Tottenham newboy Rodrigo Bentancur reveals his nickname and why he’s called it
Tottenham Hotspur fans are already a bit excited about Rodrigo Bentancur after his cameo appearance against Brighton at the weekend offered glimpses of what he is all about.
Bentancur was a late January signing for Tottenham. The midfielder arrived with fellow Juventus man Dejan Kulusevski, and both made their bows in the FA Cup over the weekend.
However, a lot of Spurs fans will probably admit to not knowing too much about Bentancur. The 24-year-old Uruguayan is clearly a good midfield player. He’s enjoyed success with Juve, helping them to win the Serie A title, and he is well known to Fabio Paratici.

Thankfully for Spurs fans as well, Bentancur has been answering a few quick-fire questions to let Tottenham supporters in on his life a bit more. And interestingly, he has revealed the nickname he has which could catch on the with the Spurs faithful.
“Lolo. Because when I was a kid my brother couldn’t say Rodrigo. He would say Loligo, and then it was Lolo,” Bentancur revealed on
Fans often love a nickname for the general ‘pub chat’. We see it a lot in English football, names like ‘Smithy’, ‘Hazza’, and ‘KDB’, just a few which have become common-place over the years.
Bentancur, then, can now count on plenty of Tottenham fans using ‘Lolo’ going forward.
