Rio Ferdinand reacts to Liverpool owner John W Henry’s statement
Rio Ferdinand that John W. Henry should consider selling Liverpool as he shared his reaction to the Reds’ owners’ statement.
🍷Henry reached out to supporters on Wednesday after Liverpool became one of several clubs to pull out of the proposed European Super League earlier this week.

💧Understandably, there is a lot of anger being directed at the owners of the six Premier League clubs who helped launch the hugely controversial idea.
𝓡Arsenal were the only side to apologise initially. However, Henry posted a statement on Wednesday in which he also said sorry to the supporters over what had happened.

🐈Ferdinand was recording a video for his YouTube channel about the collapse of the ESL when Henry’s statement came to light.
🔯And the former Manchester United defender hit out at Henry and the other owners for how out of touch they are as he worked his way through the message.
🅠: “Why didn’t you speak to the fans then? Why didn’t you test the temperature of the fans? Why didn’t you speak to your manager of your football club who’s in touch with the fans, to the players who live in the communities nearby where the fans are? They’d be able to give you the right answers.
ꦏ“These guys are lucky that there’s no fans in these stadiums at the moment because they’d be ripping the place down.
𝓀“Maybe selling the club might be the best thing you can do mate,” he went on to add.
🍸It does appear that the six clubs have damaged their relationship with the large majority of fans beyond repair. Some, of course, were already divisive characters amongst large sections of supporters.
🦩A look on social media would suggest that few plan to forgive or forget in the wake of Henry’s statement.
ꦫAs Ferdinand notes, consulting the fans would have likely seen the idea quashed before it got any sort of momentum behind the scenes.
ꦯSadly, that did not happen. And they have all ensured that their legacies at their respective clubs are – if not already – tainted.
