Rio Ferdinand issues Manchester United warning amid Manuel Ugarte agreement with PSG
Manchester United are set for a busy end to the transfer window, as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his squad after a mixed start to the season.
A stoppage-time defeat to Brighton followed a 1-0 opening-day victory against Fulham, with a goal from new signing Joshua Zirkzee.
The Dutch striker is one of a host of new faces at Old Trafford, joined by fellow Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt and French starlet Leny Yoroꦬ as United seek to improve on last season’s disappointing 8th place finish.
Outgoings have also been a key task for INEOS in the window. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has joined West Ham𓃲 for £17 million, whilst youngsters Willy Kambwala and Facundo Pellistri have also departed.
Next to leave looks set to be midfield man Scott McTominay🌺, who is close to finalising a £25 million move to Italian giants, Napoli.
♚The sale of a reliable servant to the club is of concern to United legend Rio Ferdinand, who has shared his worries along with a potential warning for McTominay’s rumoured replacement.

Rio Ferdinand sends warning to Manchester United as Manuel Ugarte replaces Scott McTominay
🔯Speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, the former player shared his concerns about losing McTominay.
💎“It really doesn’t sit well with me,” he said. “He [McTominay] might not always be an eight or nine out of ten but invariably, he’s a good solid seven.”
United have already found McTominay’s replacement, with PSG’s Uruguayan midfielder, Manuel Ugarte♚, set to join the Red Devils for a £50 million fee.
🎉The long-term target will directly fill McTominay’s central midfield role, but Ferdinand is unsure of the prospect of any replacement for the Scottish star.
♛He said: “To replace him [McTominay] you’re going to have to spend £30, 40, 50 million […] and you don’t know what you’re going to get with that next player.”
Can Ugarte replace McTominay’s role at Old Trafford?
🌺Ugarte’s task of joining United was already difficult and Ferdinand’s comments will only exacerbate that.
ꩲHaving not scored a single goal for PSG, Ugarte will struggle to replace McTominay’s 10 strikes last season. It remains to be seen how ten Hag will fill this scoring gap.
🍸What the Urugyuan will offer United though is exceptional defensive abilities. Stats from DataMB show that Ugarte has led in defensive duels per 90 in the top European leagues for two consecutive seasons.
🌜His talents in the defensive areas could unlock Kobbie Mainoo to venture further forward and chip in with more goals, a sight that will surely endear United fans, including Ferdinand, to their new midfield man.
