Rio Ferdinand delivers Patrick Dorgu red card verdict in Manchester United v Ipswich clash
Manchester United were in Premier League action on Wednesday night as they hosted Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
The first half alone was action-packed, with four goals in the opening 45 minutes – of which one was an own goal – and a sending-off.
Jaden Philogene opened the scoring for Ipswich in the fourth minute before Sam Morsy’s 22nd-minute own goal drew Manchester United level.
Matthijs de Ligt then struck in the 26th minute to put the Red Devils ahead, but Philogene equalised for the Blues in first-half stoppage time.
However, Man United went on to win 3-2, Harry Maguire’s header early in the second half proving the difference between the two sides.
Not long before Ipswich’s equaliser, Patrick Dorgu was sent off for a bad challenge on Omari Hutchinson.
The Man United defender was shown a straight red card after an intervention from the video assistant referee.
Old Trafford legend Rio Ferdinand, speaking on TNT Sports, gave his verdict on Dorgu’s red card at the break.

Rio Ferdinand says Patrick Dorgu challenge was ‘reckless’
Ferdinand began by saying Hutchinson’s touch on the ball prior to the challenge was “bad” in the first place.
However, he acknowledged that Dorgu’s challenge was “reckless” and stressed that there couldn’t be any complaints over his sending off.
“It is actually a bad touch from Omari Hutchinson in the first place and Patrick Dorgu is quick to challenge but it is reckless,” Ferdinand said on .
“It is a straight leg challenge and I don’t think there can be any complaints.”
How many games Patrick Dorgu is now set to miss
The Premier League Match Centre’s X account explained the decision behind the VAR review on Dorgu’s challenge on Hutchinson.
Serious foul play usually means a three-match domestic ban.
This means Dorgu is set to miss the FA Cup meeting with Fulham, the Premier League home clash with Arsenal, and the league trip to Leicester City.
However, Dorgu would be available for the Europa League trip to Real Sociedad.
