Report: Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton wanted by Manchester United

Tom Heaton could be offered the chance to leave Aston Villa for Manchester United this summer, .

It has been an incredibly difficult spell for Heaton at Villa Park. It appeared to be a huge coup when the Villans brought him in ahead of their Premier League return.

He was the club’s undisputed number one until he suffered a season-ending injury in January 2020.

The 35-year-old has been back over the last few months. However, with Emi Martinez proving to be an outstanding signing for Dean Smith’s side, Heaton has been kept on the bench since his return to fitness.

that Villa would like to keep the goalkeeper beyond this season. However, he is out of contract this summer. And it appears that Villa may not be the only side putting an offer on the table.

that Manchester United would be interested in signing Heaton. It is suggested that they could make an offer should they fail to land top target Sam Johnstone at West Brom.

TBR View: Villa will surely hope Heaton decides to stay put

Heaton, of course, began his professional career on the books at Old Trafford. So you could certainly understand why he may be tempted by the chance to return at this stage of his career.

It would be a blow for Villa to lose Heaton. There are not many Premier League clubs who boast a better pair of goalkeepers.

Had Heaton – who earns £42,000-a-week, – not suffered such a serious injury, Villa may well have not shown any interest in signing Martinez last summer.

But with first-team football likely to be just as difficult to come by at Old Trafford, Villa may hold out hope that Heaton will decide to stay put.
