Real Madrid may be powerless to stop £50m player signing for Arsenal
The biggest clubs in Europe are all set for big summer transfer windows.
Arsenal are going to sign a striker, while the Gunners are in for some exciting wingers too.
Meanwhile, Florian Wirtz looks set for Liverpool in what could be the biggest transfer of the summer.
Real Madrid are always a threat in any transfer window, and they’ve already been active this summer.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is set for Real Madrid, while Dean Huijsen is joining the Spanish giants too.
On top of that, Real Madrid like William Saliba, so that’s one to keep an eye on.
Madrid often get what they want in the transfer window, but, there is one deal this summer that they may simply have to concede defeat on.

Real Madrid can’t stop Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal
Speaking on the Salim Gooner YouTube channel, Ben Jacobs has shared an update on Martin Zubimendi.
Zubimendi is close to joining Arsenal, but, as of yet, a deal isn’t agreed.
Real Madrid have been keen on Zubimendi for a while, but according to Jacobs, it’s now likely too late for Los Blancos to stop the £50m man from joining Arsenal.
“They just knew they had to be quick because if they’d waited and started now, there’s an outside chance that Xabi Alonso goes to Real Madrid and says ‘I’m in love with Martin Zubimendi, let’s trigger the clause,” Jacobs said.
“Now, it’s likely to be too late, even though, as I broke at the time, it’s agreed in principle, the formalisation is important because Zubimendi has a history of waking up and just changing his mind because he’s in love with Real Sociedad.
“This wasn’t just about getting it done quickly to avoid a hijack from Real Madrid. The earliness of the deal is down to the fact that since January they’ve worked, day after day, month after month, to build the relationship and get the trust of the player, all of which give him the peace of mind to finally leave, and that hard work goes unnoticed, but I don’t think the deal would’ve happened without it.”
Arsenal’s past hijacked transfers
It sounds like Zubimendi is set for Arsenal, but it’s hard to blame any Arsenal fan for being wary around this deal.
Indeed, while Arsenal are savvy transfer window operators, they do have a history of having transfers hijacked by rival clubs.
Mykhaylo Mudryk looked certain to join Arsenal back in 2023, but Chelsea swooped in at the last minute, while Arsenal were leading the race for Lisandro Martinez for a long time before Manchester United came in.
On top of that, Arsene Wenger nearly signed N’Golo Kante at one point before Chelsea pinched him too.
Arsenal do have a history of getting extremely close to deals only for transfers to be upended by a rival, and they need to be wary about Zubimendi, even if a deal is close.
