Premier League: Team of the Week XXVIII feat. Everton and Liverpool stars

Coach: Ronald Koeman (Everton)

Formation: 3-4-3

Everton have been enjoying a good run of form of late as they eye a Europa League spot for next season, and for all the improvements that the Toffees have gradually made since Ronald Koeman’s arrival at the helm, the 3-0 win over West Brom was one of the best performances of his reign. He watched his side steamroll the Baggies, who had been playing some good foot♔ball of their own this campaign, monopolising possession and managing 16 shots. Home-grown stars Ross Barkley and Tom Davies excelled in midfield, with Romelu Lukaku his usual threatening self at the spearhead of the attack, and when Kevin Mirallas was in the right place at the right ti🐠me to fire the hosts in front, the Albion could do little to respond.

Morgan Schneiderlin, an astute January addition by Koeman, added to West Brom’s pain later in the game with his first goal for the club, before the mercurial Lukaku headed home to complete the rout. Koeman’s midfield-five worked an absolute treat here, whilst he also got his tactical switches right, withdrawing Leighton Baines at half-time in favour of Ramiro Funes-Mori. The introduction of Idrissa Gueye with just under 20 minutes remaining was effective in seeing the game out, and another youngster in Dominic Calvert-Lewin was able to enjoy a cameo of ౠhis own, replacing veteran Gareth Barry late-on, who himself had been brilliant, using guile and experience to shut the visitors out.

It was a tactical set-up executed to perfection, and a good all-round performance from an improving Everton, for which Koeman warrants credit. If the Toffees can keep🌠 this form up, they should be home and dry for a European place come the end of the season.
