Paul Mitchell is urging Newcastle to sign ‘complete’ player and they have opened talks
Newcastle United are now stepping up their efforts to bring in their first big signing of the summer.
It has been a relatively slow start to the market for a number of clubs across the Premier League and that has certainly been the case at Newcastle.
Eddie Howe has only seen Lloyd Kelly and two new goalkeepers come through the doors at St James’ Park.
However, that could soon change with Newcastle having now enlisted the help of their new sporting director Paul Mitchell.
The former Tottenham Hotspur chief has now taken on the role at Newcastle to help drive their recruitment ahead of the new campaign.
And it seems as if Mitchell has now identified one player he would really like to sign this summer with talks underway.

Paul Mitchell opens talks over ‘incredible’ player
Centre-back is the main priority at Newcastle this summer with some real injury concerns going into the new campaign.
Injuries were the story of the 2023/24 campaign for Howe’s side lsst term with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles still carrying significant injury issues.
Newcastle have been linked with a potential move for the AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw this summer.
However, it seems Mitchell is looking to keep his options open as Newcastle have now approached another potential defensive option.
According to Alex Crook, Newcastle have now opened talks with Jean-Clair Todibo over a potential move.
This is a potential deal which is being pushed by the new sporting director on Tyneside with Mitchell keen on the French defender.
However, it is claimed the Nice centre-back is unlikely to make the move to St James’ Park this summer with interest coming from elsewhere.
Jean-Clair Todibo has a lot of interest this summer
Todibo is a player who is said to be high on the West Ham radar but even they are finding the same issues as Newcastle seem to be stumbling across.
Todibo has been hailed as ‘complete‘ and that is perhaps why Juventus are looking to also bring him to Turin this summer.
Coming up against a side that can offer Champions League football is always going to be a tough ask for the likes of Newcastle.
And their efforts of landing this calibre of player will have taken a major blow after failing to qualify for any form of European football.
However, if a player is unwilling to sign due to one season without European football and is not willing to buy into the Newcastle project, then perhaps he is not the player for the Toon.
