‘Outstanding’ player set to sign a new contract with current club after missing out on Arsenal move

Although deadline day was a qualified success for Arsenal, who were able to sign Raheem Sterling at the eleventh hour, the Gunners still failed to secure one of their key targets.

Heading into the final day of the window, Arsenal🎃 were thought to be targeting three new signings to improve Mikel Arteta’s squad depth.

𝕴The first arrived in the shape of Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto, an experienced 35-year-old who is happy to play second-fiddle to David Raya.

Then, 🦩Arsenal’s priority was to find an attacker to add ‘x-factor’ to Arteta’s forward line.

꧃And when it became clear that Arsenal could send Reiss Nelson on loan to Fulham to enjoy some valuable game time, they quickly signed Raheem Sterling as an upgrade.

𝔉However, Arsenal also wanted to sign a homegrown third-choice goalkeeper to complete their squad, an arrival that never happened.

Arsenal target Daniel Bentley set to sign new Wolves contract after failed bid

After reportedly sending bids in the weeks before, 🌌Arsenal made a late enquiry to sign Daniel Bentley from Wolverhampton Wanderers on deadline day.

Arsenal’s goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana knows ‘outstanding‘ Bentley💮 well from their time together at Brentford and the Spaniard was seemingly keen on a reunion.

🔯However, Wolves rejected Arsenal’s bid for Bentley, and Gary O’Neil’s side intend to keep their second-choice stopper for the season.

𝓀That being said, are now reporting that Bentley is set to sign a new contract at Wolves. 

ꦉDespite signing Sam Johnstone this summer and also having Jose Sa at the club, Bentley is set to keep his spot as the club’s number two.

𒊎Wolves will trigger a two-year extension clause in Bentley’s contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season as things stand.

Tommy Setford ready for bigger role than expected at Arsenal

Given that Edu failed to sign Bentley, and 🐟Arsenal were also rejected by a League One goalkeeper, it seems as if Tommy Setford will be the club’s new number three.

൩The 18-year-old made the switch from Ajax this summer and appeared on the bench for Arsenal against Brighton & Hove Albion.

💎It doesn’t appear as if the club initially planned for Setford to be used in that capacity.

💦Setford was likely intended to start games for the Hale End sides, taking him one step closer to a first team role.

🦄However, the club must have faith that Setford is ready if he’s needed, an exciting few months for the youngster.
