‘One to watch’: Henri Lansbury says Bristol City have a ‘very impressive’ youngster in their ranks

Bristol City midfielder Henri Lansbury has praised Robins academy graduate Sam Bell, deeming him a “very impressive” player and “one to watch”.

The 18-year-old forward, son of former City player Mickey Bell, has come through the ranks at Ashton Gate and made his senior Robins debut last December.

Bell came off the bench in the latter stages of the Championship home game against Birmingham, and since then, he’s featured regularly in the team’s matchday squads.

Lansbury only joined City two months ago, but he’s already been impressed by Bell’s efforts in training and in matches.

When asked by the if any of City’s young players had caught his eye as a senior squad member, he replied: “There’s quite a few. Sam Bell is one to watch.

“He’s been training with us recently and he came on for a few games. He’s been very impressive.”

Bell has been superb for City’s age group teams and out on loan, so it’s little surprise to see him make the first-team squad.

Dean Holden handed the teenager his debut, and new boss Nigel Pearson also rates him highly, having kept him in the squad and giving him 12 minutes off the bench against Rotherham.

It’s great to hear Lansbury also praise Bell – he looks like a star in the making, so it’ll be good to see how he develops in the next season or two.
