Nottingham Forest expected to bid for ‘superstar’ who was said to be close to joining Tottenham

Nottingham Forest are now planning to bid for a player who was recently said to be on the verge of joining Tottenham.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been busy in the transfer market this summer, with Elliot Anderson arriving from Newcastle in a £35m deal, while the likes of Nikola Milenkovic, Jota Silva and Carlos Miguel have also moved to the City Ground.

Now, a player who Tottenham looked close to signing is set to be the subject of a bid from Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest to bid for Santiago Gimenez amid Tottenham rumours

A story from in the Netherlands now states that Nottingham Forest will bid for Feyenoord No.29 Santiago Gimenez.

The Mexico international put his name up in lights last season with 23 goals in just 30 Eredivisie appearances, helping Arne Slot lift the title before joining Liverpool.

It comes after claimed that Gimenez was on the verge of signing for Tottenham at the end of June.

Obviously, that information was either inaccurate, or negotiations stalled, as there have been few updates on Spurs wanting to sign the Mexican – who has been called a “superstar” – as we enter August.

1908 believe Nottingham Forest are expected to make a bid for Gimenez soon, having been left impressed by the 23-year-old’s display against PSV Eindhoven in the Johan Cruyff Shield final on Sunday.

The striker born in Buenos Aires scored two goals and provided one assist as Feyenoord held PSV Eindhoven to a 4-4 draw, before winning 4-2 on penalties.

Spurs must be alert

In our view, Spurs should match whatever bid Nottingham Forest put on the table.

Gimenez seems like a top talent who knows how to score goals consistently, having also netted 28 goals in 50 appearances throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

Ange Postecoglou needs a reliable No.9 who can be trusted to regularly find the net, so with UEFA Europa League football to offer – something Nottingham Forest do not have – we believe Spurs would have a decent chance of outmuscling the Reds in this transfer battle, if they either match or better any bid.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Gimenez could soon be playing in the Premier League.
