Newcastle working on deal to sign £10m Premier League star who grew up on Tyneside

TBR Football understand Newcastle United are doing their homework on Bournemouth No.16 Marcus Tavernier.

Eddie Howe is keen to bolster the right side of his attack this summer, with Newcastle particularly lacking a thre﷽at on that fl𝔉ank to mirror what Anthony Gordon offers on the left.

TBR Football understand Newcastle are close to signing Antonio Cordero – ✃a talent compared to Arsenal No.11 Gabriel Martinelli – although the Magpies are keen to make a more senior addition to the attacking department too.

Now, sources have informed TBR Football that Marcus Tavernier is a potential option for Newcastle this summer.

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now been inform𝓀ed that Newcastle are doing groundwork on a ⛄potential deal for the Bournemouth No.16 this summer.

Tavernier – whose brother James played for Newcastle before joining Wigan in 2014 – has enjoyed a strong 2024/25 campaign for the Cherries so far, scoring two goals and providing five assists in 18 appearances to help Bournemouth sit fifth in the Premier League.

TBR Football understand Newcastle also have Brentford No.19 Bryan Mbeumo on their shortlist, along with Jo🅷han Bakayoko of PSV Eindhoven and West Ham’s Ghana inter🦂national Mohammed Kudus.

The 🐎Magpies are also admirers of T🌊avernier’s Bournemouth teammate Antoine Semenyo.

Interestingly, Neil Warnock once compared Tavernier to Mason Mo𝕴unt – back when Leeds were linked.

The 25-year-old also spent time at St James’ Park alongside his brother, leaving tꦫhe academy to join Mi💦ddlesbrough in 2013, but has strong ties to the area.

Speaking to Bournemouth’s official website last season, Tavernier said: “Most of my friends are Newcastle fans. I grew up in Newcastle and I lived there while I was at Middlesbro🉐ugh, and I know a lot about the city and the club and everything to do with it.”
