Newcastle summer target was once likened to Sadio Mane and Ousmane Dembele
Newcastle United are set for a busy summer on the transfer front in the wake of qualifying for the Champions League.
Newcastle finished fifth in the Premier League table on the final day of the season to join Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the competition.
With that in mind, Eddie Howe will now be on the lookout for reinforcements, and TBR Football has confirmed that one of Ligue 1’s most exciting youngsters is in his sights.
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey revealed that Newcastle are eyeing Marseille winger Jonathan Rowe, a player who has earned widespread praise in recent years.

Newcastle target Jonathan Rowe deemed ‘one of the most perfectly two-footed players’ around
TBR Football understands that Jonathan Rowe was a target for Newcastle prior to his move to France and is a player that Eddie Howe hugely appreciates.
Rowe swapped Norwich City for Marseille last summer and has enjoyed a fruitful season at the Stade Velodrome, helping Les Phoceens to second place.
The 22-year-old made 30 appearances for Marseille in all competitions, bagging three goals – all in Ligue 1 – and four assists.
Back in 2022, Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig sang Rowe’s praises, deeming him “one of the most perfectly two-footed players I have ever seen”.
Kulig likened his ambidexterity to that of Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembele, and also compared his overall style of play to that of Liverpool legend Sadio Mane.
He gave Rowe a potential rating of 8 out of 10, but admitted it was “rather pessimistic” and backed him to be “one of the biggest revelations in the Championship”.

What Jonathan Rowe’s colleagues and coaches have said about him over the years
Rowe received his first England Under-21 call-up in October 2023 and David Wagner, his then manager at Norwich, praised the youngster’s hard work in getting there.
“He deserves it,” Wagner told . “He has worked very hard, he was very patient in the right moments as well. And then he used his opportunities.
“He’s a good character, he knows that he deserves the praise which he gets, but he knows as well that he had to work very hard for it.
“And the most important thing is he knows if he only continues what he has done so far, this will not be enough for the future.

“He now has to have the moments where you have to invest more and he will do so.”
Meanwhile, Canaries academy coach told the : “Jonny always had a bit of a wow factor.
“What you’re seeing in the first team, I still think there is more to come, and I’d expect a lot more from him.
“He’s scoring a lot of goals and doing the right things. I watched the game the other night, and he is doing all the right things.
“But I know Jon, and I know he is never satisfied. I never let him off with being satisfied.”
And Shane Duffy previously said of Rowe: “Jonny has got that bit of magic for us.
“He can win us games, and that’s what you need at this level to be successful.”
