Morata could be convinced to join Tottenham on loan to fill void left by Kane’s injury
Tottenham tried to sign Alvaro Morata in July 2017, but the Spaniard was put off by the prospect of fighting Harry Kane for a starting spot.
According to the Telegraph, Mauricio Pochettino of Morata at the time: “When we spoke he said to me, ‘Why do you want me if you have Harry Kane? You want me for what? To be on the bench? Because it’s Harry Kane, I can’t compete with Harry Kane’.”
But now Morata is with Chelsea, but is edging closer to the exit door as the Blues sit on the verge of bringing in Gonzalo Higuain on loan.
That has seen Morata move towards a move to Atletico Madrid, but now that Kane is injured, Tottenham are also in need of a striker as well.
Now that Kane is not in immediate competition, Morata could perhaps be tempted to come to north London.
He is not an ideal option – or one most likely to get Spurs fans excited – but as a short-term fix, the arrangement could work out best for all parties.
Morata has misfired in England but he is of a higher calibre than Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen, and Pochettino is clearly a fan – on the basis of his 2017 approach.
