Mohamed Salah says there is one ‘big difference’ between Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool
Mohamed Salah has started the Premier League campaign as strong as ever, with the Egyptian star scoring in both of Liverpool’s victories so far.
The Egyptian is famous for his bright starts to the season. A strike against Ipswich saw Salah become the Premier League’s leading o༒pening-day goalscorer, ahead of Frank Lampard, Wayne Ro𒈔oney and Alan Shearer.
Perhaps what’s most impressive about this season’s start is that it has come under new manager Arne Slot, who replaced Reds legend Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
Slot has silenced any concerns of a post-Klopp hangover with a perfect start to the season. Liverpool beat newly promoted Ipswich Town on the opening da✃y, followed by a 2-0 home victory against Brentford.
This start has clearly imprཧessed Salah, who has spoken about the differences between his new coach an𒊎d Klopp.
Mohamed Salah praises Arne Slot’s ‘controlled’ style of football
In an interview with ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United this Sunday, Salah spo🌜ke of how much he is enjoying the football under Slot.
He said: “I enjoyed it before [under Klopp] and I am enjoying it now. We play different football now with the manager wanting to control the ball all the time. With Ju🧜rgen we’d sometimes just go and counter-press and attack in the opposition’s half.
“Now෴, we need to control the game, sometimes slowing the game down but it’s all part of the plan. It’s a big difference.”
Salah continued: “The new manager [Slot] has come in and the players are all excited to give ev🥂erything. I think it’s necessary to go out of your comfort zone so we’ll try to play now and give our best to th🉐e new manager as well.”
Slot’s biggest task this season could well be to convince Salah t𓄧o commit his future to Liverpool, something the🔴 winger is keeping tight-lipped on.
What Arne Slot is doing differently to Jurgen Klopp with Mohamed Salah
Salah was Liverpo🏅ol’s talisman under Klopp and looks to be the same under Slot too. However, Slot is using his star winger in a slightly different way.
In both Premier League games so far this season, it seems that ‘less is more’ has been Slot’s message to Salah. Compared with Jurgen Klopp’s final match as Liverpool boss last season against Wolves, with stats revealing that Salah is 👍taking around 50% fewer shots this season so far.
His seven shots against Wolves garnered no goals for the Egyptian, but his four against Ipswich and three against Brentford saw Salah on the scoresheet in both games. Against Ipswich, those four shots came w♐ith eight fewer touches compared with Klopp’s final match.
It seems clear therefore that Sl💃ot wants more efficiency from his main goal threat, and is happy to see him less involved in the play to achieve it.
