Mikel Arteta’s summer transfer priority has just become crystal-clear after Arsenal’s League Cup loss to Newcastle
Arsenal have been brought back down to earth after their 5-1 win over Manchester City as Newcastle United knocked them out of the League Cup at the semi-final stage.
The Gunners needed to hit the ground running after going 2-0 behind in the tie from the first leg, but the Magpies didn’t need long to put the tie beyond Arsenal’s reach.
ꦓAfter Alexander Isak saw an early goal ruled out for offside, the Sweden international then fired an effort off the post for Jacob Murphy to slot home in the 19th minute.
Newcastle🎶 then went 2-0 up early in the second half after David Raya’s poor back-pass to Declan Rice was pounced upon by Fabian Schar and slotted home by Anthony Gordon.
ಞAlthough the transfer window has now shut, Arsenal’s transfer priority has just become crystal-clear in wake of their loss to Newcastle.

Arsenal need to sign Alexander Isak
Put simply, Arsenal need to fully focus on bringing Alexander Isak to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
🍌For months, fans and pundits have been speaking of the need for the Gunners to bring in a centre-forward.
🍃Admittedly, Isak would’ve been an incredibly difficult signing for Arsenal to pull off in the January transfer window.
🐽After all, no Premier League club would want to sell their talismanic striker to a top-flight rival mid-season.
🌠However, it’s clear to see that Isak is a striker of the highest calibre. Fans have been seeing it all season and Arsenal supporters once again saw exactly what he could do.
🃏Arsenal have two of the best centre-backs in the world in William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, yet Isak made them look ordinary time and time again.
♌Indeed, some Arsenal fans even claimed that Isak is Saliba’s kryptonite, so impressive was the Newcastle man against the Gunners powerhouse.
How much Arsenal may have to pay if they wanted Isak
ౠAs one of the Premier League’s most dangerous strikers, Isak will certainly not come cheap. Indeed, Arsenal would probably be looking at a nine-figure sum.
Pete Graves claimed during the January transfer window that 🐼Arsenal would likely have needed to make a bid of £200million to even begin negotiations for Isak.
Meanwhile, Newcastle legend 🐷Alan Shearer said he wouldn’t even accept £150million from Arsenal for Isak.
💃“Would Alan sell Isak to Arsenal for £150million?” Shearer was asked, to which he replied “No is the answer.”
😼Shearer continued: “Who are they going to go out and get who will come to Newcastle and do a similar job?
✨“Centre-forward is the most important position. He’s one of the reasons they’re sitting fifth and in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.”
♑With Isak’s contract running until 2028, Newcastle’s hand would be strong in any negotiations.
