Mark Wilson says he is ‘quickly changing his opinion’ about 22-year-old Celtic player

The return to domestic league action saw Celtic struggle to a 1-0 win over Ross County yesterday.

With Brendan Rodgers looking to add quality to the team to improve performances, it seems that there is one player who is already impressing Mark Wilson after a tentative start to the season.

Paulo Bernardo arrived at Celtic 💝with a sense of excitement. Another Benfica youth player, the Hoops fans were hoping that the 22-year-old could become another Jota-type signing who could get the fans up off their seat with some exciting football.

Obviousl𓃲y, Bernardo is a different type of player to Jota and after a slow start to the season, the Portuguese midfielder is starting♚ to find some very good form. And that form has impressed Mark Wilson.

Mark Wilson thinks Bernardo could replace Matt O’Riley

The former Celtic defender was speaking about 22-year-old summer signing when he suggested that Celtic could have pulled a masterstroke by getting him on loan and should Matt O’Riley leave, the Portuguese midfielder could easily step into the Denmark international’s boots.

Wilson said [],🎃 “I’m quickly changing 𒁃my opinion on him.

“Since that game on Boxing Day against Dundee where he scores a goal then follows that up against Rangers♎.

“His confiden🙈ce h🅠as obviously went through the roof. I think he’s been much improved.

“Very much cut from the same cloth as Matt O’Riley. And that’s when you tend to think has Celtic done this very well that Matt O’Riley will go inꦇ the💯 summer for a huge fee and have just got a ready-made replacement?

“He took a wee bit longer to get up to speed than people would have hoped bu🍬t he is there and scoring goals and you’ll get him for a good price.”

In the last five games, two goals and two assists have quickly propelled him into the hearts of the Celti🎃c fans.

A Glasgow Derby performance that saw him rated as Celtic’s best-performing player by , was followed up by his performance of the season in a dominant 3-0 win over St Miౠrren where Bernardo was ratꦡed an impressive 8.9.

With a passing accuracy of over 84% and averaging over 6 touches in the opposition penalty box, Bernardo is an effective attacking force for Brendan Rodgers.

However, the🧸 defensive side of his game♛ really needs to be worked on as he averages less than 50% of duels won and has one of the lowest ball recovery rates of the Celtic squad.

Ifꦑ O’Riley does leave next summer could Bernard♋o be the man to take his place at the heart of the Celtic midfield? On recent form, you wouldn’t bet against it.
