Manchester United now trying to complete a signing who could make Leny Yoro even better
Manchester United are making some smart moves this summer.
The Red Devils scored just 44 goals in 38 Premier League outings last season โ only the bottom three and Everton netted fewer.
In that respect, it is encouraging to see that Manchester United have moved to sign Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo โ two proven performers in English football who bagged a combined total of 35 Premier League goals last term.
Benjamin Sesko is close to following the pair to Old Trafford in a ยฃ74m move from RB Leipzig.
As that deal nears completion, Manchester United have already started work on a move to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton โ a development which will surely excite Leny Yoro.
Leny Yoro and Carlos Baleba were a dominant duo at Lille
The Brighton No.17 knows the 19-year-old well from their time together at Lille.
Yoro and Baleba shared a pitch on 16 occasions for the French side, impressively winning all of their last six games together in a row before the latter sealed a ยฃ23.2m move to Brighton in August 2023.
Their first six appearances together even came for the reserve side at Lille when they were emerging teenage talents, so the duo go back some years.
Baleba also knows Mbeumo from the Cameroon national team, making seven appearances alongside the ยฃ71m man โ winning four and drawing three.
Manchester United can become an even greater physical force with Carlos Baleba ahead of Leny Yoro
Ruben Amorim possibly felt his side were a bit meek at times last season, as the diminutive Manuel Ugarte struggled to be a formidable presence in the heart of midfield โ the Uruguay international won just 0.6 aerial duels per game in the Premier League.
However, the 21-year-old Baleba would solve this issue significantly.
The Cameroon international recorded 1.1 successful aerial duels in the Premier League last term in comparison, and actually led the way in this metric in April 2024 compared to every U23 player across the top eight leagues in Europe โ according to the CIES Football Observatory.
As you can see, Yoro โ who is excited by Mbeumo and Cunha arriving โ sits second on this list too.
With the 6ft 5in Sesko set to arrive at Old Trafford, Amorim would have a far more physical team on his hands if a move for Baleba materialises as well.
