Manager’s January comments suggest Leeds may have to fork out 10million
Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Ipswich Town defender Luke Woolfenden this summer as the ღyoungster continues to enjoy his breakthrough season – but Paul Lambert’s January comments may see Leeds pay a huge fee.
that Leeds are one of a number of clubs interested in the 21-year-old defender, who has clocked up 36 of his 41 senior ꧂Ipswich appearances this season. Playing at centre-back, Woolfenden has starred for Lam🔥bert’s side.
Indeed, he has helped the 🐻Tractor Boys keep 11 clean sheets in 31 league games – and has even notched a goal of his own in a 1-0 win over Lincoln City. Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and QPR are also said to be interested in Woolfenden.
Back in January, former Aston Villa and Norwich City ma🔯nager Lambert was asked whether he felt Woolfenden was worth a fee of £10million. Lambert responded, by stating that he feels his player is certainly worth that figure in today’s climate.
“The way the modern game is? Absolutely, absolutely,” Lamber🥃t said, when asked if Woolfenden was worth £10million – . “Potentially what he could be, the level of money and the way the game’s going, 100 per cen𝕴t he is.”

TBR’s view – Woolfenden a top player, but is he worth £10million?
Probably not. Leeds need a centre-back and M𒉰arcelo Bielsa is very careful in picking the players he wants to join his side – given the style of play the Whites boast. Wo🐭olfenden has clearly been identified for a reason.
There is no doubt that Woolfenden has enormous potential and could go on to become a player worth an eight-figure fee. But with Leeds potentially set to gain promotion, should they be spending such a fee oℱn someone as unproven as Woolfenden?
The centre-b✃ack has only played 41 times for Ipswich – who are in the third tier of English football. Unpr൲oven at Championship level, Woolfenden would surely be out of his depth in the top tier. A good player, but at that price, Leeds should avoid.
