Manager says nine-goal attacker linked with Aston Villa is a ‘top Premier League player’ in the making
Aston Villa could offer Matheus Pereira an extended stay in the Premier League even if West Bromwich Albion go down, according to .
And if the Villans do manage to sign the Baggies star, they’d be getting a prospective “top class Premier League player”, in the words of Sam Allardyce.
Pereira has been superb for Albion since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2019, initially on loan before signing permanently the following year.

The 24-year-old has scored four goals in his last four appearances, with his latest strike coming from the penalty spot in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Villa.
Pereira is West Brom’s top scorer with this season – with eight of those coming in the league – and has also contributed five assists.
Admittedly he has been a bit inconsistent at times, but Allardyce is confident that the Brazilian can iron out these flaws and go on to become a top player.
“I have worked with some world class players in my time,” the Albion boss, asked where Pereira ranks in the players he’s coached, told the .
“I can’t say Matheus is world class but he certainly has the potential to be a top class Premier League player if he continues developing. He is still young.
“I think when he is committed and when he works as hard as he did against Aston Villa, when he shows that ability – then he is certainly a big difference and a big game player for West Brom.
“He will produce more performances of that quality as he gets more and more mature.
“Obviously I have worked with some top quality players in my time, but in my time at West Brom he has shown some top quality skills.
“If that development continues he can become a top class player because he is still very young.”
