Man United worried ‘incredible’ £50m defender may be too expensive for them

It’s certainly not a secret that Manchester United will be looking to add a new central defender to boost their options this summer.

Although Erik ten Hag still has a fairly strong first choice duo in Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, the pair have barely featured together this season owing to injury.

Martinez has now unfortunately suffered two serious problems whilst Varane has also had his own injury issues.

And when you consider that Jonny Evans has now played 18 Premier League games this season at 36-years-old, it’s clear that better planning is needed.

That’s not to say that Evans is a poor option, far from it, but at his age he doesn’t represent United’s future, and he is a short-term solution.

Both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are also available of course, but it seems Erik ten Hag has his doubts regarding both.

That all considered, have now been providing an update on Man United’s interest in Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

United have been linked with the transfer in the summer, but may have now been dealt a blow in their pursuit.

Nice won’t give Man United a discount in deal for central defender Jean-Clair Todibo

According to the report mentioned, United have been told by Nice that they won’t receive a discount on Todibo if they pursue a deal, despite both clubs being under the same INEOS ownership.

United’s interest in Todibo predates Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival, and the club would still need to pay around £50m according to this information.

That price tag is causing a concern and the club are worried a deal that expensive won’t present value for money.

It’s certainly an interesting one.

At 24-years-old, Todibo has been hailed as an ‘incredible’ talent in the past, and he is now a France international.

However, Tottenham decided that the asking price was too high for them in January, instead pursuing a deal for Radu Dragusin.

It’s certainly going to be interesting to see what Man United decide given they do need another defender this summer, and probably one who is ready to start immediately.

All that considered, United are now said to be confident in their efforts to sign a Premier League forward.
