‘Magnificent’… Ally McCoist says new Liverpool target did something ‘ridiculous’ on the weekend

Liverpool were linked with a move for Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri last week as the Reds prepare for what could be a busy summer – and he earned praise from Ally McCoist on the weekend.

With Andy Robertson now in his thirties and struggling with injury over the past 12 months, and Greek defender Konstantinos Tsimikas never entrusted with the starting spot – a new left-back is required.

It is claimed that Ait-Nouri is a target for Liverpool, with the Algeria star made a priority for Liverpool this summer. Jurgen Klopp has signed off on a move for him – but the Reds do face competition for him.

Indeed, the likes of Chelsea and both Manchester clubs are interested in Ait-Nouri – who is believed to be rated at a fee of £50m. A player that Conor Coady once raved about, praising his “bags of tricks.”

On Saturday, Wolves were knocked out of The FA Cup in a dramatic 3-2 loss – with Coventry scoring two injury-time goals to win. Ait-Nouri, though, impressed. He scored the first of Wolves’ first two goals.

But it was his assist that caught the eye of McCoist. Working as co-commentator for , McCoist was stunned by his run from inside his own half before setting up Hugo Bueno to score Wolves’ second.

“What a piece of skill from Ait-Nouri. The way he takes it, back inside. This pass, ridiculous – completely takes two defenders out, magnificent,” McCoist said, as he laid on his fifth goal involvement this term.

Certainly, you would imagine Liverpool will have been watching on as Ait-Nouri sparkled in what was a disappointing day for Wolves. Come the summer, perhaps Saturday’s outing may tempt Liverpool.
