‘Love it’… Micky van de Ven and James Maddison left amazed by 22-year-old Tottenham player yesterday

Tottenham Hotspur duo Micky van de Ven and James Maddison have both praised Brennan Johnson on social media following yesterday’s win over Brighton.

The Welshman popped up with a stoppage-time winner to hand Tottenham a crucial three points on Saturday afternoon.

Ange Postecoglou’s had trailed at halftime after Pascal Gross’ 17th-minute penalty. But goals from Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson rounded off a much-improved second-half performance.

Johnson linked up with Heung-Min Son for the winner, with the Tottenham skipper delivering an exceptional ball for Johnson to smash home at the back post.

And it’s fair to say that both Micky van de Ven and James Maddison were impressed with Johnson’s cameo display.

Johnson took to after yesterday’s game and posted a picture of himself celebrating his late winner.

His teammates flocked beneath the post to congratulate him for securing three points for Spurs.

The likes of Maddison, Van de Ven and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all left comments beneath, as well as Spurs loanee Djed Spence.

It’s no secret that Johnson has received plenty of criticism in recent weeks. The 22-year-old dropped to the bench yesterday off the back of a disappointing run of form.

It looked as if yesterday would be another nearly day for Johnson as he found himself in a few promising positions but lacked conviction in the final third.

But to his credit, he arrived at the perfect time to get on the end of Heung-Min Son’s delivery.

While Johnson is yet to reach his full potential at Spurs, he’s already shown glimpses of what he’s capable of.

Tottenham fans may need to remain patient with the former Nottingham Forest man as he continues to adjust to Postecoglou’s demands.
